I have not written a post for The Family Meeting in quite sometime. My lack of writing is attributable to a lot of things I suppose. I have been in a bit of an emotional whirlwind, at times, even a funk. As a result, it has been hard to muster the energy or enthusiasm to express my thoughts in writing.
My parents, aunts, and uncles are all well into their 80’s, one of which we recently lost. I have been doing the same work for the past 25 years. My nephews are well on their way to building their own lives and families. My baby girl will be 17 in a few weeks. And as if that isn’t enough, we just got back from taking our son off to college to start his freshman year.
It is a peculiar place for me. It is a configuration of time where fewer things are staying the same and far more of them are rapidly changing. So amidst the tears during a 4 hour drive back home yesterday, my lovely bride of almost 22 years and I decided that this past few months of reflection had been necessary and now it was time for a new beginning, growth and not withering, joy and not sadness, energy and not malaise.
One of the most important decisions that we made while riding back was that we would infuse new life, perspective, and energy into our mutual passion of families and mentoring. So, with the addition of my award-winning professional journalist wife and author, as a collaborator, The Family Meeting has now gone from the caterpillar to the butterfly.
You will see, read, and experience thoughts, commentaries, articles, posts, pictures that will evoke critical thought about mentoring, families, and frankly whatever else interesting or thought provoking that we put up.
I am back, except this time I have my wife collaborating with me!
Read, learn, and share…..Have a Family Meeting!
