Job Application

Chillin in a restaurant, I was sitting there waiting for my wife.
Three young men walk in and give me a lesson about life.
Baseball caps cocked, long braids, hoodies, and sagging jeans.
I sit curious in the sparse bar wondering what their presence means.

“May I help you gentlemen?” She says to the first of the three.
I sit watching, concerned, but why…they look just like me!
His response was, “can we fill out a job application?”
I sit looking and listening as she starts sharing information.

We are currently making choices about our staff.
“The one young man we had; he is back in college studying math
His job was to wash dishes, take out garbage, and do well.”
I am sitting and thinking, none of these fellas will excel.

Appearance, demeanor, and presentation are all very key
Three young black men, unprepared, looking just like me
I want so bad to stop them, explain, and drop some knowledge
It might get them up to speed, like that young brother in college.

Read, learn, and share…..Have a Family Meeting!
